The Asia-Pacific IPv6 Enhanced & 5G Global Conference held in Kuala Lumpur has initiated a groundbreaking IPv6 Enhanced White Paper framework and the establishment of the Asia-Pacific (APAC) v6 Council, along with the inception of IPv6 Forum Malaysia (IPv6FM).

Attended by over 130 representatives from governments, carriers, industry organizations, and universities across the Asia-Pacific region, the event featured notable speakers, including four from Huawei.

The APAC v6 Council was officially founded during the conference, with Prof. Emeritus Dr. Sureswaran Ramadass assuming the role of founding chairman of IPv6FM. Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) CEO Simon Sun, vice president of Huawei Datacom product line Ryan Qiu, and Huawei Datacom chief protocol expert Robin Li represented Huawei’s presence at the event.

The council’s mission revolves around establishing a high-level platform for IPv6 dialogue within the Asia-Pacific region. With plans for regional IPv6 framework development, evolutionary roadmaps, and deployment strategies, the council aims to accelerate IPv6 adoption rates and catalyze enhanced innovation.

On a national scale, IPv6FM is dedicated to advancing and propagating IPv6 in Malaysia. Comprising individual and corporate members, its objective is to provide technical leadership and innovative insights for the seamless integration of IPv6 into networking and telecommunications infrastructure, both present and future.

During his keynote address titled ‘IPv6 Enhanced: The Cornerstone of Digitalization,’ Ryan emphasized the pivotal role of IP networks as bridges connecting end-user devices with cloud services.

He underscored that this forms a cornerstone of the digital economy, which necessitates robust connectivity, agile cloud access, and a seamless user experience across IP networks.

Dhruv Dhody and Dr. Wu Qin, both part of Huawei’s Internet Architecture Board (IAB) and Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), along with Zhu Keyi, director of Huawei’s Datacom product line overseeing the Standards and Patents Department, shared their insights during a keynote session titled ‘Evolving IPv6 Security: Current Progress and Anticipated Challenges on the Horizon.’

Highlighting the industry’s trajectory, Dhody noted the transition of IP networks to the era of IPv6 Enhanced, characterized by stages 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0. Dr. Wu Qin elaborated on the role of network digital maps in driving business success, while Zhu Keyi underscored Huawei’s proactive contributions to IP-related industry standards, asserting the company’s significant role in their development.

The conference also saw the unveiling of the IPv6 Enhanced White Paper framework. Jointly presented by Huawei Malaysia, IPv6 Forum Malaysia, NLTVC Education Sdn Bhd, and others, the framework explores the importance of IPv6 as a foundational element for the next-gen Internet evolution.

It delves into key considerations for constructing 5G bearer networks, service development, and the positive impact of government policies on IPv6 industry growth.

Additionally, Prof. Emeritus Dr. Sureswaran Ramadass, speaking on behalf of the World Broadband Association (WBBA), highlighted WBBA’s endeavors to bridge the digital divide and promote broadband development for global benefit. He emphasized the organization’s commitment to research, green sustainability, and cloud-network synergy to foster industry chain communication and development.

As the conference concluded, it underscored the pivotal role of IPv6 and its enhanced iterations in driving connectivity, innovation, and digital transformation across the Asia-Pacific region.
