The Aston Martin Superleggera in Action

The Aston Martin DBS Superleggera has arrived in Malaysia to replace the aging Vanquish S for the top spot in the British marque’s line-up. The DBS name revives an iconic nameplate that first appeared in 1967, while Superleggera pays homage to the innovative lightweight construction methods pioneered by Italian coach-builder, Touring.

The DBS Superleggera boasts an impressive array of specifications. These include: 725PS, 900Nm of torque, a top speed of 340km/h and an intense acceleration rate; being able to achieve 0-100km/h in just 3.4 seconds. This  performance is made possible by the car’s 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 engine. The engine itself is tuned for responsive performance without sacrificing torque.

The car sports an aerodynamic form, which helps in downforce and helping it along to its top speed. Cooling grilles serve an aesthetic as well as a functional purpose in cooling and feeding the 715bhp engine with air.

With higher speed, larger brakes and stronger suspension, comes increased weight. However, the DBS Superleggera avoids this pitfall by utilising the latest generation lightweight aluminium materials. The lightweight chassis offsets the weight of the heavy components  while providing increased stability with its shape and design.

Standard equipment for the DBS Superleggera features keyless entry, tyre pressure monitoring system and a 360-degree camera with Parking Distance Display and Park Assist. The audio system has DAB plus Bluetooth audio and phone streaming, iPod, iPhone and USB playback. There is also an integrated satellite navigation system and wi-fi hub. All the in-car infotainment systems use a central LCD screen, controlled via a central dial.

It also offers extensive personalisation options. These include leather and Alcantara upholstery which comes as standard, as do the Sports Plus performance seats and steering wheel. There is a choice of two alloy wheel designs: the standard ‘Y’ Spoke Forged Wheel and the Lightweight Twin Spoke Forged wheel. Both are 21” in diameter and fitted with Pirelli tyres developed specifically for DBS Superleggera.

The DBS Superleggera will be available for viewing in the Aston Martin Showroom (Kuala Lumpur). It will feature a starting price tag of RM1.2 million (excluding tax).
