The Curve, a popular leisure destination in Petaling Jaya that has pioneered numerous innovations and concepts, including the nation’s first pedestrianised mall, has been named the recipient of the 2024 Petaling Jaya Child Friendly City Excellence Award in the Commercial Category.

The Mayor of Petaling Jaya, Mohamad Zahri Samingon of Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), presented this prestigious recognition to acknowledge and celebrate organisations and spaces that promote child-friendly principles by fostering inclusivity, safety, and engagement for both children and families.

MBPJ’s efforts to maintain Petaling Jaya’s distinction as the first Malaysian city to receive UNICEF’s Child-Friendly City recognition heavily rely on this award. This global initiative recognises urban spaces that prioritise the well-being, rights, and development of children in their urban planning and community services.

“This acknowledgement serves to reinforce our commitment to establishing a dynamic, family-oriented environment that accommodates the diverse needs of our guests,” said Jazmi Kamarudin, Chief Operations Officer of Boustead Properties Berhad.

“As a neighbourhood mall, we recognise the importance of family life in every community. We are committed to enhancing the lives of families and promoting a sense of belonging in Petaling Jaya.”

Children-focused tenants, who provide a diverse selection of retail outlets, entertainment, and learning centres for toddlers, young children, and adolescents, account for approximately 11% of The Curve’s Net Lettable Area (NLA).

Modern sophistication seamlessly integrates with a warm, community-centric atmosphere to characterise The Curve’s unique identity. Its capacious design, alfresco dining courtyards, and wide canopied walkways enable families to effortlessly explore and unwind.

The Curve remains the premier destination for child-friendly purchases, featuring a variety of entertainment centres, including Moonbug Cocomelon Playground, The Little Gym, and Wan To Play, in addition to specialised children’s retail outlets like Mothercare, Babyshop, Anta Kids, and Cotton On Kids.

Safety and accessibility form the fundamental foundation of The Curve’s design and operations. Clear signage to family-friendly facilities, anti-slip flooring, and stroller- and wheelchair-friendly pathways provide families with peace of mind.

Security personnel strategically patrol designated parking areas near lifts, specifically for families, female drivers, and individuals with disabilities.

The mall also offers parents a stress-free environment for caring for their children, featuring infant care rooms equipped with clean changing stations, private nursing areas, and feeding preparation tools.

The Curve is a lively centre that provides a variety of family-friendly experiences, including the Merdeka Food Run, Slide the Curve, pizza-making workshops with Italiannies, arts and crafts sessions, and drawing courses for children with autism.

It is a place where families can connect and create cherished memories. The Curve will kick off the year-end celebrations with the 20th Anniversary New Year’s Eve Countdown Party on 31 December 2024, in honour of the Gift of Joy Christmas campaign. The community will have unforgettable experiences at this event.

The Curve provides seamless connectivity to local public transport, including covered walkways to the MRT, a carriage service, and user-friendly digital directories, in accordance with its objective of being a convenient lifestyle destination.

These initiatives further solidify The Curve’s status as a trusted neighbourhood centre by ensuring that each visit is both pleasant and stress-free.

By consistently expanding and innovating, The Curve aims to redefine the retail mall experience, thereby creating a family-friendly, inclusive, and vibrant environment for future generations.
