Datuk Seri Najib not held today, MACC to call two important witnesses
Former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak showed up at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya this morning to give his statement on investigations relating to SRC International and 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd. Shukri Abdull said Datuk Seri Najib would not be arrested today as he was only giving his statement. He said MACC would be taking the statement of two important witnesses before proceeding to make any arrests relating to the case on SRC International and 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). “Until we get two very important witnesses then you will get the story. Now the case is under Datuk Seri Azam Baki. “Depending on the evidence and documents as well as depending on how he (Najib) answers…if we are satisfied we can let him go, but if we still need his statement again, we will call him back,” he said in a special media conference today. Speaking to the media briefly after emerging from the headquarters, Datuk Seri Najib said the questioning was done professionally. The session started at 10 am and ended at 2.15 pm.

Government to review mega projects
Economic Affairs Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the government will review mega projects and projects which have been approved by the previous administration. He said some of the projects would need to be reviewed in terms of their viability, as some were hastily executed in the run up to the 14th General Election recently. “We will see if they are beneficial or otherwise, as we also have to consider the legal implications if the projects are halted,” he told reporters. “We want to revisit all mega projects approved by the previous administration and we will also want to renegotiate the terms, but if the projects have not been carried out, we will only focus on those which will have a direct impact on the people,” he said.

PIKOM welcomes Gobind Singh Deo as the New Communications and Multimedia Minister
The National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM) welcomes the appointment of Gobind Singh Deo as the new Communications and Multimedia Minister. PIKOM Chairman Ganesh Kumar Bangah said the association believes that the appointment of a lawyer to helm the fast moving portfolio will ensure that the regulatory framework that governs the sector remains relevant and up to date. This will support the growth of the ICT industry in Malaysia.” “The South East Asian internet economy is expected to grow from USD 50 Billion to USD 250 Billion over the next 7 years. The government’s efforts since the launch of the Multimedia Super Corridor in 1996 has put Malaysia in a leading position to benefit from this growth. It is important that the government’s support for the industry continues and we should not lose on this momentum so that we can truly become the internet capital of South East Asia,” Ganesh explains. E-commerce contributed an increased gross domestic product (GDP) of 6.1 per cent or 74.6 billion in 2016 as compared to 5.9 per cent or 68.3 billion in 2015. E-Commerce is one of the fastest growing industries in South East Asia and is expected to grow from USD 10 Billion in 2017 to USD 88 Billion in 2025.

Sarawak SMEs urged to embrace digitisation, e-commerce
The small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Sarawak have been urged to embrace digitisation and embark on e-commerce to unlock more business opportunities in the current digital world. Minister of International Trade and E-commerce Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh said apart from ensuring their competitiveness and survival, the move would help boost the growth of the SME community and accelerate the state and country’s economic growth. “It is time to learn how to make use of this digital technology to connect your business in all sectors and open up new digital processes that could ease your business pressure and grow your business using the digital superhighway.” “Digital technology makes the world connected, it affects the ways how businesses operate nowadays. This is an essential timing for the SMEs to digitise businesses, embrace the loT or Internet of Things, use social media to position your businesses, e-commerce to sell, and online banking or system to deliver transaction or even tax submission,” he said.
