MY Token’s aspiration of positioning Malaysia as a global tech hub received a major boost with its recent launch as the first blockchain and Web3 event of its kind in Asia. The event took place at KL Base on 14 and 15 September, bringing together key figures from the blockchain industry and offering a dynamic fusion of technology, education, and entertainment.
Endorsed by Tourism Malaysia and the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), MY Token highlighted the country’s growing role in the blockchain ecosystem. The opening ceremony kicked off the two-day programme – befittingly, just two days before the nation celebrated Malaysia Day – with the attendance of Nor Maizatul Azta bt Sanip, Chief Assistant Senior Director, Malaysian Science and Technology Information Centre; Dr Shahril Baharim, Undersecretaries Accounts Division, Ministry Of Tourism, Arts & Culture and Zuraini Ahmad, Parliamentary Officer of the National Assembly.
Billed as the premier blockchain event in the region, MY Token aimed to accelerate Malaysia’s growth in the digital economy, attracting entrepreneurs, developers, investors, and tech enthusiasts from all over the world. Designed to showcase Malaysia’s blockchain potential, MY Token served as a unique platform bridging traditional industries with the rapidly expanding digital economy.
“Make no mistake – MY Token isn’t all talk and no play. Rather, it was founded to drive economic growth and tourism in Malaysia by attracting major Web3 brands and creating pathways for Web2 talents to transition into the Web3 space,” said Sangeet Singh, co-founder of MY Token during his welcoming speech.
“Simply put, MY Token is a space where the brightest minds can come together to shape the future of technology. Our mission is to accelerate blockchain adoption across the region, while also ensuring that Malaysia becomes a key player in the digital transformation that is happening globally.”
An immersive experience that featured global pioneers and industry titans under one roof, the event’s strong global pull was one of its defining features, attracting major players from the international blockchain arena including Yat Siu, Chairman and Co-Founder of Animoca Brands; Mohamed Ezeldin, ApeCoin DAO Special Council and Head of Tokenomics at Animoca Brands; Spencer Soloway, Vice President of Ecosystem Growth at Horizen Labs; and Medeira, Co-Founder of Matr1x Gaming.
“We’re thrilled to have been part of MY Token 2024, the first government-backed Web3 conference in Malaysia—a country rich in culture and heritage, yet forward-thinking in its embrace of innovation,” shared Mohamed Ezeldin, ApeCoin DAO Special Council and Head of Tokenomics at Animoca Brands.
“It’s only fitting that ApeCoin powers this historic event, marking a pivotal moment in Malaysia’s blockchain adoption journey. Blockchain represents an evolution in how we engage, exchange value, and are rewarded—transcending borders and empowering economies like Malaysia to grow faster. Partnering with government entities is important to this growth, and MY Token is laying the groundwork for a thriving blockchain ecosystem in Malaysia and the region.”
“MY Token offered something truly unique—a gathering of minds, builders, and creators unlike anything seen in this region. It’s a place where the future is shaped through collaboration and a shared vision.
“At Horizen Labs, we’ve always believed in the power of cooperation to unlock the full potential of blockchain. Events like MY Token bring together builders, developers, investors, and policymakers to drive progress forward,” said Spencer Soloway, Vice President of Ecosystem Growth at Horizen Labs.
MY Token also appointed Web3 Ambassadors from across Asia, including Forbes 30 Under 30 honourees such as Evan Luthra and Renz Chong, adding to the event’s global prestige. These movers and shakers are expected to share insights on blockchain’s future in Asia and beyond.
MY Token launched its first AI ambassador, Miss Aisha, highlighting Malaysia’s role in AI innovation. Supported by the government, AI aims to drive changes in sectors like the environment, healthcare, and industrial automation.
The event featured Lightning Pitch sessions where startups pitched ideas to venture capitalists and government delegates, fostering collaboration and investment opportunities.
Supported by Zues Event Sdn Bhd, the two-day programme included a Play to Earn scavenger hunt with prizes up to RM500,000, a gaming zone, workshops, and panel discussions. Attendees explored blockchain technologies and trends, with participation from leading companies.
MY Token offered free access to over 600 university and college students to equip them with blockchain and Web3 skills.
The event also hosted a music festival, blending technology and entertainment with performances, Asian food, and a fireworks finale.
