The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), under the Ministry of Digital Malaysia, has opened applications for three key grants: the Digital Content Grant (DCG) 2024/2025, the Malaysia Digital Catalyst Grant (MDCG), and the Malaysia Digital Export Grant (MDXG). These grants, available starting 9 September 2024, align with the MADANI government’s ongoing efforts to boost the nation’s digital economy.
Digital Content Grant (DCG) 2024/2025
Since its inception in 2016, the DCG has empowered Malaysian creative content companies by supporting the development, production, and commercialization of digital content across various industries such as animation, digital games, comics, and creative technology.
The DCG 2024/2025 offers three types of grants tailored to different content producers:
- Mini Grant: Provides up to RM150,000 for development, production, and commercialisation of digital content products.
- Prime Grant: Offers up to RM500,000 for similar purposes.
- Marketing & Commercialization Grant: Grants up to RM300,000 to support the commercialization of digital content products.
Eligible applicants for the Mini Grant include local digital content companies, enterprises, sole proprietorships, partnerships, and limited liability partnerships. For Prime and Marketing & Commercialization Grants, local companies incorporated in Malaysia must have a minimum of 51% Malaysian ownership, RM20,000 issued share capital, and hold Malaysia Digital (MD) or Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) Status. Full eligibility details are available on MDEC’s website.
Malaysia Digital Catalyst Grant (MDCG)
The MDCG provides up to RM1 million or 50% of project costs (whichever is lower) to drive innovation within Malaysia’s digital sector. Focused on scalable, high-impact solutions, the grant is available for projects in the Malaysia Digital Promoted Sectors for a period of up to one year.
Since 2021, the MDCG has been awarded to 59 companies, facilitating advancements like cloud-based defect management systems and resource planning tools that have enhanced SME operations, showcasing the transformative power of digital innovation.
Malaysia Digital Export Grant (MDXG)
The MDXG also offers up to RM1 million or 50% of project costs and is designed to assist Malaysian companies in expanding globally through high-value technological activities. With a project duration of up to one year, MDXG has helped promote local companies and facilitated global market entry with innovations such as blockchain-based EV apps and 5G-powered IoT solutions for ATM security.
MDCG and MDXG are available exclusively to companies with Malaysia Digital (MD) status, which offers a range of strategic advantages, including access to MDEC’s support network and greater opportunities for collaboration within the digital economy. Companies not yet holding MD status are encouraged to apply.
MDEC will host informational briefings for the DCG on 11 and 24 September 2024, and for MDCG and MDXG on 12, 18 September, and 2 October 2024. Applications open on 9 September 2024 and will remain open until the allocated funds are exhausted. Interested parties can apply online via the MDEC website.
