With digital as the new world order, Malaysians should prepare themselves to face this “new wave” in order to keep Malaysia in pace towards achieving developed country status by 2020, says an expert.

Over the last decade, digital technology has shaped more economic change and social progress than any other new innovation, said Karthi Palanisamy, organising chairman of “Digital Malaysia — The Future of Digital Marketing” seminar.

The one-day seminar is scheduled today (27th May 2013) at the Matrade Convention Centre here with eight expert industry practitioners and innovators presenting a concentrated dose of insights and shared experiences into what is round the corner for the long haul.

Karthi said the current landscape requires all agencies or companies to have their own social media to interact with clients and customers as most consumers nowadays prefer to have real-time information.

The trend is quite positive, he added, with most companies in Malaysia now spending l0 to 15 per cent of their budget on social media, compared to two to three per cent five years ago.

Even if print marketing will never die, players should find a balance between print and digital, he said.
