The circular economy is defined as an economic system aimed at eliminating waste and the continual use of resources. With the increasing depletion of the earth’s resources, more businesses are slowly transitioning from the current unsustainable linear economy to a more sustainable circular economy.

In accordance with the Taiwanese government’s goals of achieving a fully circular economy with zero waste, Taiwanese companies have rapidly been adopting sustainable practices. To attract more people to experience Taiwan’s innovative green products, Taiwan Excellence conducted “Green Life Online Press Conference” yesterday (Dec 8th). The event was jointly held by TAITRA, the foremost trade promotion entity in Taiwan, and the Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Climate change, global warming and pollution problems are having widespread lasting consequences all over the world. So, both developed and developing countries are being call upon to respond to the increasing environmental challenges. Therefore, it is very important for businesses to continue innovating products with carbon footprint reduction, eco consumerism and sustainable development in mind, said Ms. Simon Wang, Executive Vice President of TAITRA during the online campaign.

This event focused on four winners of the prestigious Taiwan Excellence Award, namely:

Taiwan Lung Meng Advanced Composite Materials- Has a unique paper making technology that is patented in over 40 countries. With just stone and a small amount of water, their Rockbook Notebook Series is waterproof, anti-freeze, tear-resistant, soft yet durable and insect resistant. The whole production process uses no bleach and acids, making it environmentally-friendly and safe for humans.

Ju Tian Cleantech- A company that is built with the concept of circular economy and wastes recycling. Their Bagasse Straws and are made with renewable materials, such as coffee grounds, bamboo powder, tea dregs, rice hulls, and even grape pomace from wine-making. These straws are naturally compostable after the end of their life, ensuring that the earth’s limited resources can be recycled in a regenerative and sustainable manner. It also won’t turn soggy after a whole day of use.

Jiun Yo- An expert of paper packaging manufacturer, market operation and market service for 22 years. Their WCP-Waterborne Coasted Paper Cups are made from water-based dispersion coating and meet the requirements of both biodegrading and composability. These cups are an eco-friendly alternative as opposed to most of the disposable cups that are lined with extruded polyethylene (PE) and it costs less than polylactic acid (PLA) laminated film.
