Malaysia ranks fifth in volume of malware detected

Malaysia ranks fifth in volume of malware detected in the country amongst other countries in the Asia-Pacific region. According to Malwarebytes’ recent Asia-Pacific State of Malware Report 2017, Malaysia is leading among emerging markets in Asia in terms of vulnerability against malware. The report examines the top malware threats present in the region. The findings illustrate a significant shift in cybercriminal attacks and malware methodology from previous years. The study reveals that botnets and Android malware have risen to prominence in Malaysia’s current threat landscape. Malaysia ranks 10th in global botnet incidences, with Asia-Pacific as a whole accounting for more than 50% of botnet incidences globally. Malaysia is also seeing high amounts of Android malware and ranks 12th globally under this category. The study examined data from more than one billion malware detections/incidences, covered more than 100 million devices in over 200 countries, in both corporate and consumer environments.

Malaysian Companies Secure Potential Sales of RM96.58 Million At PLMA 2017

Nine Malaysian companies secured potential sales of RM96.58 million at the World of Private Label International Trade Show (PLMA) 2017. This is a 43 per cent increase compared to the RM67.63 million generated by 10 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) last year. Held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands from May 16-17, Malaysia’s participation in the PLMA 2017 was spearheaded by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE). Housed under the non-food category, the Malaysian companies promoted their home cleaning and furnishing, household and personal care products, among others at the event.


Online Traders Under E-Commerce Must Register With CCM

The Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM) will enforce all online traders who carry out businesses via marketplace or e-commerce. Companies such as Lazada must register with the commission within the next six months. CCM Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Zahrah Abd Wahab Fenner said the move was aimed at protecting consumers from being cheated, give confidence to buyers, and in line with the Registration of Businesses Act 1956. “Initially, it will involve online traders who sell products through the Lazada platform and will be broadened to other market places including Fashion Valet and others. This initiative will be undertaken via a memoranda of understanding with e-commerce companies in the country in stages.”
