Malaysia, 6 April 2022 – CapitaLand, with the support of its philanthropic arm CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF), has donated RM200,000 under its #GivingBersama initiative to provide more than 650 vulnerable children from 17 orphanages in Johor, Klang Valley, Kuantan, and Penang with daily necessities and tech devices to allow them to learn remotely and remain digitally connected amid the COVID-19 pandemic.  From November 2021 to February 2022, staff volunteers organised more than 20 virtual activities to engage the children in arts and craft, exercises, planting, as well as lessons on how to fight cybercrime.

CapitaLand also rallied staff and shoppers to contribute their STAR$® towards its #GivingBersama initiative through CapitaStar, a multi-store, multi-mall cardless rewards programme by CapitaLand and CHF matched the amount raised through CapitaStar dollar-for-dollar.

Ms Selina Ng, Head, Retail, CapitaLand Investment (Malaysia), said: “As a socially responsible company, we are committed to making a positive impact on the communities where we operate and play an active role in caring for those in need.  We hope that our contribution has uplifted the families and children’s spirits, and made a meaningful difference to their lives.  As a strong advocate of staff volunteerism, we are heartened to see our staff volunteers dedicate their time to conduct activities as well as distribute daily necessities, food and laptops to the vulnerable children.  We would also like to thank our customers for their support of our #GivingBersama initiative, and will continue to leverage our network and resources to help the community.”

Mr Mohammad Said Alhudzari Ibrahim, General Manager, Programme Operations Division, MERCY Malaysia, said: “We would like to thank CapitaLand for supporting and reinforcing our flood relief efforts for the Hulu Langat community.  Through such collaborations that tap on our strength in disaster risk reduction and management, we can build resilient communities and emerge stronger from crises.”

Ms Grace Chan, Supervisor, Rapha Children’s Home, said: “During this unprecedented time, CapitaLand’s support under its #GivingBersama initiative has greatly reduced our burden.  The children were able to enjoy their online classes and virtual activities which made them very happy.”
