Capital Markets Malaysia (CMM), an affiliate of the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), has released a consultation paper, seeking public feedback on new Sector Guides designed to complement its Simplified ESG Disclosure Guide (SEDG).
These Sector Guides will provide enhanced environmental and social disclosure recommendations tailored to five key sectors in Malaysia’s economy: energy, transport & storage, construction & real estate, agriculture, and manufacturing.
The consultation paper specifically invites feedback on the proposed additional environmental and social disclosures relevant to these sectors, with a primary emphasis on engaging SMEs within the supply chain.
However, CMM encourages participation from all stakeholders, including mid-tier companies (MTCs), multinational companies (MNCs), and public listed companies (PLCs) operating within these industries.
These Sector Guides reflect input gathered from multi-stakeholder focus group sessions within the respective industries, shaping the guidelines presented for public consultation.
The Sector Guides build upon CMM’s SEDG launched on 18 October 2023, which aims to provide SMEs in global supply chains with streamlined and standardized ESG disclosure guidelines aligned with international and local frameworks.
These include the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), Bursa Malaysia Listing Requirements, Bursa’s Sustainability Reporting Guide, and the Malaysian Code on Corporate Governance (MCCG).
The public consultation period will run for three weeks, from 26 April 2024 to 17 May 2024. Interested parties are encouraged to submit their comments and feedback before the closing date.
