The crowd at the recent Human Resource Networking Event (HRNE) 2013

As the nation embarks on its important mission towards becoming a progressive and high income nation as envisioned in Vision 2020, invited leading experts from various industries to discuss and share new initiatives that will retain and attract talent in Malaysia. The Human Resource Networking Event (HRNE) brought over 300 HR personnel from all over Malaysia to share their expertise on the theme ““Building, Attracting& Retaining Talent for a High Income Nation”.

One of the topics discussed tapped into Malaysia’s education system to ensure workforce readiness for the fresh graduates. As the competitions in various industries are stiffening up, employers are looking for quality workers to stay competitive in their respective fields.  To be competitive in the global market, the education system in Malaysia must prepare undergraduates with relevant skills and knowledge to build a more sustainable economy. Engineering, accounting, life sciences, ICT, civil/construction and manufacturing are some of the industries currently in high demand for top talent in both the entry and experienced level.

A recent survey, showed 65 per cent of Gen-Y employees said although they have worked less than two years at their jobs, most of them are already on the lookout for a new job. This shows that talent retention has to be continuously assessed to reduce turnover and attract quality employees into the organization. One of the strategies discussed was attracting talent through strong employer branding.

This includes salary information, work location, more company’s information such as work culture, dress code, language spoken and even a glimpse of the office environment. With this effort, we hope to deliver serious and quality talent to the employers.”
