PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BNI) has announced a significant collaboration with PT Berdayakan Usaha Indonesia (Batumbu), a leading information technology-based lending service provider (fintech lending), to bolster financing access for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia.

As part of this partnership, BNI will provide a loan channelling facility worth IDR1.2 trillion to Batumbu. These funds will be distributed to Batumbu’s MSME partners through a supply chain financing model, reinforcing BNI’s role as an Agent of Development committed to empowering Indonesia’s economic backbone.

The agreement was formalised during a ceremony at BNI Tower, Jakarta, on 22 November 2024, with the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) by I Nyoman Astiawan, General Manager of Retail Productive Banking at BNI, and Reza Perazi Armadi, President Director of Batumbu.

Speaking at the event, Corina Leyla Karnalies, BNI’s Director of Retail Banking, emphasised the importance of leveraging digital innovation to enhance financial inclusion for MSMEs:
“In this era of digital transformation, technology serves as a crucial enabler for the financial sector’s growth.

“Fintech lending offers innovative, efficient, and inclusive solutions tailored for MSMEs. BNI is steadfast in driving innovation and digitalisation to simplify and improve credit access for these enterprises.”

Empowering MSMEs Through Technology
Batumbu, supported by Validus Investment Holdings Pte Ltd, has been a pioneer in fintech lending since its inception in 2018. As of October 2024, the company has successfully disbursed IDR 45.1 trillion in financing while maintaining profitability and achieving a positive monthly EBITDA since 2022.

Reza Perazi Armadi, President Director of Batumbu, shared his vision for the partnership: “This collaboration allows us to provide fast, customised financing solutions to small and medium enterprises, many of whom are underserved by traditional banking services. It aligns with our mission to empower MSMEs across Indonesia.”

Recognising that MSMEs contribute approximately 61% to Indonesia’s GDP and employ 97% of the national workforce, BNI continues to prioritise initiatives that support this vital sector.

By fostering partnerships such as this, the bank aims to deliver transformative financial solutions, enabling MSMEs to expand operations, compete globally, and enhance Indonesia’s economic resilience.

This strategic alliance between BNI and Batumbu highlights a shared commitment to building an inclusive financial ecosystem that supports sustainable growth for MSMEs while advancing Indonesia’s broader economic objectives.
