With the advent of AI and automation, the warehousing and logistics market is set to benefit greatly from the advances this new era brings.

Warehouse robotics are used particularly for various warehouse activities such as transport, palletising, storing, packing, picking, and transfer. Currently, warehouse robotics are becoming increasingly utilised in warehouses of different industry verticals comprising pharmaceutical, e-commerce, f&b, retail, and automotive.

Over the past decade, e-commerce has seen an exponential growth in popularity. As such, the demand for efficient warehousing to stock the large amounts e-commerce inventories has also increased accordingly. This has resulted in increased demand for human personnel to carry out operations and processes in warehouses.

Experts and analysts have predicted that the continued growth of the e-commerce industry will result in additional demand for warehouses and distribution workers. This poses a significant problem since the warehouse market already has issues with regards to both funding and available space.

The implementation of robots in warehouses will enable timely and smooth functioning. As such, it is expected that there will be increased investment in warehouse robots to cope up with labour scarcity problem.

SMEs in particular are serving as a vehicle for generating new opportunities for the global warehouse robotics market. Rising demand for industrial robots from SMEs are indicative of their determination to keep up with the technology and efficiency that is usually a luxury for the often resource-strapped SMEs.

On the other hand, the high cost that comes with deployment of robotics and the retraining required to operate warehouse robotics can be rather restrictive. As previously mentioned, SMEs are already lacking the funds to invest heavily into robotics. With no actual guarantee that warehouse robotics will improve their bottom line, implementation of robotics can be seen as a huge risk.

Despite advances and adoption of warehouse robotics being a global phenomenon, the Asia Pacific region leads the global warehouse robotics market and is expected to do so in the years to come. Asia Pacific is expected to monopolise global warehouse robotics market in the coming years as well. This is due to a higher than average deployment and utilisation of robotic solutions.
