Alibaba.com, a leading global B2B e-commerce platform, reaffirmed its dedication at the 19th Malaysian International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) to support Malaysian SMEs, especially those in the Halal product sector, in expanding their presence in the international Halal market and harnessing the growing B2B Halal e-commerce sector.

During the event, Alibaba.com launched its inaugural Alibaba.com Halal Industry Report in collaboration with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE). This comprehensive report provides an analysis of global Halal product consumption trends within the B2B e-commerce landscape, offering valuable insights for suppliers to make informed business decisions.

The report highlights Malaysia as a premium supplier market for Halal products, thanks to internationally recognised certification processes by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), its rich Islamic heritage, cultural understanding, and dedication to research, innovation, and advanced technologies.

These factors enhance the quality and reputation of Malaysian Halal products, making them highly sought-after worldwide. Despite this strong foundation, the report encourages Malaysian Halal product suppliers to embrace digital transformation as a reliable way to navigate supply and demand fluctuations while ensuring business stability.

One year after its launch with support from MATRADE, Alibaba.com’s online Halal Pavilion has witnessed substantial participation from numerous local SMEs in sectors such as food & beverage, agriculture, health, and beauty.

The online showcase has attracted a significant number of inquiries from buyers interested in Malaysian Halal products, spanning markets like the European Union, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.

Nianci Phang, head of marketing and business development of Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore at Alibaba.com, said, “With the overwhelming support from local Halal-certified companies onboarding our platform, we are confident Alibaba.com will play an instrumental role in meeting the global demand as well as boosting Malaysian SMEs’ participation in global trade.”

Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, CEO of MATRADE, noted the significant growth potential of Malaysia’s Halal industry, driven by the Halal Industry Master Plan 2030 (HIMP 2030), adding that Malaysia’s Halal industry is projected to expand to US$113.2 billion, contributing 8.1% to GDP by 2025.

Roger Luo, head of Southeast Asia at Alibaba.com, emphasized Malaysia’s role as a key partner in their e-commerce development roadmap and their commitment to enhancing the online visibility of Malaysia’s Halal product sector.

An exemplary case of a Malaysian Halal supplier benefiting from Alibaba.com’s Halal Pavilion is L.K.Tee Enterprise Sdn. Bhd., an FMCG supply chain provider. Since joining Alibaba.com in 2018, the company has grown its export sales from 8% to a significant 45% of its total sales.

Nicholas Tee, head of business development at L.K.Tee Enterprise, highlighted the transformative partnership with Alibaba.com, which expanded their customer base across continents. The online Halal Pavilion provided them with a dedicated platform to showcase their Halal-certified products to a global audience.

Alibaba.com, as Malaysia’s only B2B marketplace offering an end-to-end digital trade experience, provides Malaysian SME exporters with a comprehensive suite of services covering online store management, translation support, digital marketing, online transactions, customs clearance, foreign exchange, and platform analytics.
