Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) is an Official Sponsor of the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global. The event will be held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium from 23 to 30 October and will feature the world’s top 8 singles players and doubles teams battle for one of women’s tennis most coveted trophies.

The WTA Finals is one of the most prestigious events on the global sporting calendar. With Singapore being a strategic market, APP is committed to supporting world-class events that bring the very best in sporting entertainment to fans and the overall community.

In line with its Forest Conservation Policy (FCP) which was implemented in 2013 and its pledge to restore and support the conservation of forests in Indonesia, APP is also committed to accelerating the pace of change towards environmental sustainability and giving back to Mother Nature.

APP will work closely with the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) to ascertain the cumulative aces scored upon completion of the tournament and plant the corresponding number of trees. In addition, all invited guests of APP will receive a placard to pen their names and have it returned to APP. Each guest will have a tree planted in their honor and have the placards with their names placed in front of their respective trees at a tree planting ceremony.

The trees will be planted on a 2 hectare plot of land in the Arboretum (Elephant Protection Area) which is located in the Rasau Kuning District of Riau, Sumatra between the dates of 21-25 November 2016. The Arboretum, based on research by scientists from the Kyushu University of Japan is said to have a high conservation value with about 300 different plant species within 100m ranges. Besides being an important conservation area, the Arboretum is an ideal place for eco-tourism, education and research.

APP will prepare seeds of the shorea balangeran (Red Balau) to be planted during the ceremony. The Red Balau is categorized as a critically endangered species found in Sumatra and Kalimantan (Borneo). About 100 guests from Singapore, the Forest Agency Office in Riau, local government, schools and communities will be invited to the tree planting ceremony.

APP also believes that the planting of trees will help offset the event’s carbon footprint and also climate change. The greatest eight in women’s tennis at the WTA Finals are in constant pursuit of control, speed and precision on court. APP shares the same fighting spirit in championing environmental sustainability. We keep the world green, so everybody wins.
