Asia Mobiliti, Malaysia’s leading Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) provider, has announced a groundbreaking collaboration to introduce Unitsky’s String Transport Technology to Southeast Asia.
The agreement, finalised during the Sharjah Investment Forum 2024, marks a significant step towards advancing innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable urban transportation solutions in the region.
Unitsky’s Suspended String Transport Technology, developed by Dr Anatoli Unitsky, is a cutting-edge solution designed to tackle transportation challenges in developing regions. This advanced string rail system reduces construction costs with its lightweight infrastructure, making it an attractive alternative for large-scale public transit.
The technology’s minimal environmental footprint makes it ideal for areas with limited space or infrastructure, enabling the development of scalable, sustainable mass transit networks.
Unitsky String Transport (uST) offers high safety and efficiency with its suspended design, which eliminates risks associated with ground-level traffic and pedestrian interference. The system’s Intelligent Control System reduces human error, and it is resistant to natural disasters and vandalism.
Capable of reaching speeds between 100–500 km/h, uST can transport up to 25,000 passengers per hour without congestion. Its elevated structure minimises land use, reduces emissions, and operates with minimal noise, adapting seamlessly to various terrains and weather conditions.
The system can span distances of up to 400 metres between support towers, making it a versatile solution for sustainable transportation.
Ramachandran Muniandy, CEO and Co-founder of Asia Mobiliti, signed the collaboration agreement with Oleg Zaretskiy, CEO of uScovery DMCC, to bring Unitsky’s technology to Southeast Asia.
“We are thrilled to partner with Unitsky String Transport, whose technology has the potential to revolutionise mass transit in the region,” said Muniandy. “This solution addresses critical first-and-last-mile connectivity challenges in dense urban and emerging areas where traditional infrastructure is either lacking or too costly. With this technology, we aim to unlock new possibilities for sustainable, efficient transport in Southeast Asia.”
This partnership aligns with Asia Mobiliti’s mission to integrate multimodal transport networks. By combining Unitsky’s technology with Asia Mobiliti’s Demand-Responsive Transit (DRT) system, the collaboration will enhance connectivity in underserved areas, boosting regional mobility and reducing carbon emissions.
To support the successful deployment of the string rail network, Asia Mobiliti has formed a Malaysian consortium of industry leaders, including Nippon Koei Mobility, the railway and mobility subsidiary of Japan’s ID&E Holdings Group, and Midwest Composites, a composites engineering start-up.
The consortium will conduct feasibility studies, localise manufacturing, and oversee project delivery, ensuring the technology meets Southeast Asia’s unique requirements. By establishing production capabilities in Malaysia, the consortium will support local industries and create a sustainable, cost-effective supply chain.
Oleg Zaretskiy, CEO of uScovery DMCC, emphasised the potential of Unitsky’s technology: “String transport technology could provide the foundation for a new transportation sector that addresses the mobility and logistical challenges of Malaysia’s growing economy without exacerbating environmental and socio-economic issues.
“The introduction of innovative technologies is a global challenge that must be embraced by individuals, countries, and humanity to ensure our survival and the preservation of our civilisation.”
This strategic initiative promises to reshape urban transportation in Southeast Asia by bringing together visionary technology and expertise. With the introduction of Unitsky String Rail Technology, Asia Mobiliti and its partners are paving the way for a new era of mobility that will redefine urban landscapes across the region.
