TThe Taiwan Excellence Earth Month initiative has expanded from online to physical events. Over 2,000 people participated in the online environmental actions. Following this, the eco-friendly event held on September 1 at Kuala Lumpur Perdana Botanical Garden attracted more than 200 participants, who came together to promote ecological protection and sustainability.
“One Good Habit, Love the Earth” is the slogan for this global sustainable development initiative by Taiwan Excellence and has been widely promoted in the United States, the European Union, Japan and across Southeast Asia.
The aim of this social media awareness campaign is to foster an environmentally friendly lifestyle by encouraging individuals to make tiny and simply changes in their daily habits which can hopefully serve as a springboard to greater changes.
The event in Malaysia was launched on 15th of July and ran till 25th of August. During the 42-day period, a total of 3,313 photos were submitted, and netizens responded enthusiastically by posting about their green habits ranging from reducing plastic and paper use, to bringing their own water bottles and shopping bags.
Many participants uploaded photos for 21 consecutive days and left messages encouraging more people to go green. It is heartwarming to see so many people sharing their determination to live environmentally friendly lives.
The Eco Fun Fair on the 1st of September at the Perdana Botanical Garden is a natural expansion of Taiwan Excellence’s commitment towards sustainability. Kawan Guni, a Johor Baru based recycling platform, was invited to talk about waste classification and recycling. Participants also engaged in a challenge game using plantable paper that they can take home and plant in the soil to sprout plants.
Seven award-winning Taiwanese companies participated in the Fair and showcased their eco-friendly innovations, including Paper Shoot’s environmentally friendly paper camera, RENOUVO’s compostable tableware made from sugarcane, Uplus’s low- carbon tinted film, the world’s smallest outdoor portable water purifier from Mbran Filtra, ADATA’s environmentally friendly PCR external hard drive, VAGO’s miniature vacuum pump, as well as FECA’s extensive range of suction-cup lifestyle products.
The hands-on experience with these innovative environmentally friendly products gave participants many inspirations about how to make their everyday experiences greener.
RENOUVO’s eco-friendly cutlery was used throughout the Fair and later collected for composting during a tree-planting event scheduled for September 11th. Taiwan Excellence is also working with social enterprise Seeds Malaysia to plant 50 trees at the Al-Kadeem Academy in Shah Alam as a gesture of future cooperation between Malaysia and Taiwan, as well as sow the seeds of a sustainable tomorrow for the next generation.
