The Bumiputera Economic Council will monitor the progress and implementation of all initiatives approved by the government resulting from the Bumiputera Economic Congress (KEB) 2024, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister stated that the monitoring would focus on the bodies responsible for implementing all initiatives announced through ministries, government departments, government-linked companies (GLC), and private companies.
“Many have questioned, sometimes the announcements sound soft, and they may be surprised, but for those who are more critical, they will surely ask, what’s next? Is it just an announcement?
“That’s why I agree that the Bumiputera Economic Council, which I chair, will continue to monitor the progress and implementation, whether through ministries or government departments, GLCs, government-linked investment companies (GLIC), and private companies, so that what I announced earlier is implemented according to the set schedule,” he said at the closing ceremony of the Bumiputera Economic Congress (KEB) 2024 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).
Anwar also agreed that an executive implementation committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi should be established to ensure the announced initiatives are well-implemented.
“A secretariat, as decided by the Ministry of Economy, will ensure that the monitoring is much more effective and well-guided,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid, in his post-event media session, stated that a permanent secretariat would be established under the Bumiputera Economic Council to ensure the immediate success of all proposals and resolutions from KEB 2024.
“All decisions and resolutions presented by these clusters and groups are collected by the secretariat and it has been agreed by the Prime Minister that a permanent secretariat for the implementation of these proposals and resolutions must be done immediately.
“It is placed under the authority of the Bumiputera Economic Council. I have been given the responsibility to chair the steering committee to consider these decisions and resolutions that will receive approval from the Bumiputera Economic Council.
“For the working committee chaired by the Minister of Economy, Rafizi Ramli, the most important thing is that the entire cluster in the congress has proposed various aspects related to the interests of the Bumiputera without sidelining other ethnicities,” he said.
