ReGen Rehab Hospital (ReGen Rehab), the first private rehabilitation hospital in Malaysia licensed by the Ministry of Health Malaysia, is taking step to be at the forefront of specialised rehabilitation treatment for individuals recovering from neurological conditions such as stroke and spinal cord injury.
ReGen Rehab has also launched its Community Outreach Initiative alongside its Robotic Rehabilitation program. The ceremony was officiated by Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Dr. Wan Ismail, the Member of Parliament for Bandar Tun Razak.
The primary goal of this initiative is to increase the availability and accessibility of structured and personalized rehabilitation interventions to enhance independent mobility and improve the overall health of individuals with a history of stroke, spinal cord injury, or other neurological conditions.
Hanafi Salehuddin, CEO of ReGen Rehab, said the importance of rehabilitation for individuals with neurological conditions. He said: “Rehabilitation is crucial for anyone who has experienced any form of neurological condition.
“The aim is to restore functional ability and quality of life through a structured program implemented in a timely manner and supported by a multidisciplinary team of medical professionals. Advanced technologies like robotics facilitate high-intensity therapy through repetitive movements, promoting neuroplasticity and aiding the brain in relearning and regaining lost abilities.”
As Malaysia faces the challenges of an aging population, the significance of maintaining an optimum quality of life during aging or recovery after a medical incident should not be underestimated. Rehabilitation plays a pivotal role in ensuring the nation’s readiness in addressing these challenges.
ReGen Rehab is a joint venture between Khazanah Nasional Berhad and Select Medical, a leading rehabilitation hospital company in America.
Its establishment aims to advance the development of rehabilitation medicine and increase accessibility to the public. Through the #StrongerTogether initiative, ReGen Rehab is offering free assessments and trial sessions for Robotic Rehabilitation to individuals and patients dealing with neurological conditions such as stroke, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone Disease, and multiple sclerosis. This offer is available from 1 June until 31 July 2023.
“At ReGen Rehab, we prioritise our patients’ needs and recovery goals by delivering exceptional care and support. By integrating Robotic Rehabilitation into our existing neurological rehabilitation program, we push the boundaries of recovery outcomes, helping patients regain their confidence and quality of life,” Hanafi added.
The Robotic Rehabilitation program at ReGen Rehab currently offers two streams. One stream focuses on lower limb rehabilitation, utilising a robotic exoskeleton device with various parameter settings tailored to patients’ walking abilities. This advanced technology enables patients to quickly return to their natural walking pattern, revolutionizing lower limb rehabilitation.
The Hand Hub program is the second stream, consisting of three robotic devices designed for upper limb rehabilitation. This program aims to stimulate muscle activation, promote functional task training, and provide strengthening through an interactive gamification experience. The Hand Hub program caters to patients with diverse needs and capabilities.
By implementing precise, targeted, and repetitive exercises, individuals with a history of stroke, spinal cord injury, or any neurological condition can improve the overall strength and vitality of their upper and lower limbs, leading to expedited mobility recovery, said Hanafi.
