Vietnamese Electric Vehicle startup Dat Bike has announced the launch of Dat Charge – an ultra-fast charging station for its electric bikes. Located at the Saigon Innovation Hub (SiHUB), Dat Charge cuts the EV charging time by a third, by charging 100km at an unbeatable 20 minutes, compared to 60 minutes or more for ordinary EV charging stations.
Charging time has generally been a disadvantage for EVs. Compared to traditional gasoline-powered vehicles that can be refilled in under 5 minutes, EVs can take hours to charge because of limitations of technology and infrastructure.
Dat Bike aims to install Dat Charge ultra-fast charging stations across key cities in Vietnam and set up a network of hundreds of fast charging stations connecting with businesses to create a friendly ecosystem for all Dat Bike owners.
Dat Bike’s renowned R&D team has been working on tech to eliminate the gap between gasoline-powered bikes and electric bikes so that these EVs can travel longer distances and charge faster. Dat Bike’s latest model, Weaver 200 is equipped with an engine with a peak power of 6,000W that can charge up to 200km in just one charging time. The model has recently been named as Vietnam’s best-selling electric bike as per Zing.Vn’s July edition.
Dat Bike is a Vietnamese electric bike manufacturing company, founded in 2019 by software engineer Nguyen Ba Canh Son. After leaving the USA’s Silicon Valley, Son came back to Vietnam to build a career in sustainable development. He founded Dat Bike with the vision to transform Vietnam’s vehicle market from petrol to electric focus.
Realizing that the electric vehicles in Vietnam are mostly imported from China, which come in a variety of models but have low battery life, capacity and speed, Dat Bike aims to create 100% made-in-Vietnam electric bikes with enough functionality to meet the needs of most users.
Since its establishment, Dat Bike has launched two versions of electric cycles, the Weaver and Weaver 200. In April 2022, Dat Bike successfully raised US$5.3 million in Series A, raising the company’s total funding since its inception to US$10 million. With each steady steppingstone, Dat Bike sets its ambition to become a leading Vietnamese manufacturer of electric vehicles, contributing to greenifying the US$25 billion two-wheeler market in Southeast Asia.
