United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) Bhd (UOB Malaysia) has announced that Mr Wong Kim Choong has been appointed its new Chief Executive Officer.
Mr Wong assumes his duties on October 1st. He succeeds Mr Chan Kok Seong who has moved to Singapore to take on the role of Chief Risk Officer at UOB Group.
Mr Wong, aged 55, is a veteran at UOB with close to three decades of corporate and retail banking experience across the Group’s regional network. He was previously the President and Chief Executive Officer of United Overseas Bank (Thai) Public Company Limited (UOB Thai), where he oversaw the integration of UOB Radanasin Bank and Bank of Asia to form UOB Thai.
Prior to that, Mr Wong spent 16 years with United Overseas Bank Limited in Singapore and six years with UOB Malaysia.
Mr Wong said he would focus on driving organic growth at UOB Malaysia and continue to develop the Bank’s corporate, commercial, business and retail banking businesses.
“With one of the largest branch networks of any foreign bank in Malaysia, strong connectivity across our regional network and solid credit ratings, we are well-positioned to help our clients seize the opportunities created by growing intra-regional trade and affluence in Asia,” said Mr Wong.
Mr Wong holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto, Canada.
